What if we made things simple?
Dearest Wednesday reader,
How was your week?
On Sunday 21st July, Scott and I had been married for 23 years. Much like the boys birthdays I replay the day over in memory, nostalgia and also a bit of how did we last that long.
How have we lasted 23 years?
I sat soaking in the bath before we went out for dinner, thinking about this question while Tom and Scott were on their way home from fishing in Tom’s new boat.
I don’t have a single answer - like don’t go to bed mad at each other.
We have gone to bed plenty of times mad at each other, we have argued, we have been silent. We text each other all day, and whisper during the night when we are both awake. We have heard every story, we can read each other - sometimes too well. We have talked about separating over the years, we have also declared to always be together. We have our own strengths and weakness when it comes to being human. Over the years of shift work and Scott working fly in fly out we have collaborated well in the running of the house, taking care of the boys and each other. There has never been his and her jobs to be done, we both have set examples for the boys - their father can mop the floor or cook a meal and their mother can mow the grass or chop wood. They have seen us greet each other at the end of the day with a kiss and they know we do regular date days.
Like I said I can’t give one piece of wisdom as to how we have lasted 27 years together and 23 years married. Scott said at dinner on Sunday night.
“We got married, so we work shit out and stay married”.
I put my engagement and wedding ring in to be repaired last weekend, I had noticed my engagement ring kept catching on clothes, sheets etc. The jeweler said the diamond was about to fall out. Did you know that the Romans believed that a vein ran directly from the fourth finger on the left hand to the heart. This vein was called Vena Amoris, which translates to 'vein of love' because of the belief that the heart is the center of our emotions.
Maybe it is as simple as love - our version of love is being committed to our love, each other and our family and as Scott said working shit out.
Have a beautiful day
Love
Melinda
PS This email was written on Tuesday, I usually write it on Wednesday and send it to you on the same day. I am working at my new job on Wednesday, it is my first day on the floor. I have learnt ALOT from the last week of “training”. It has been educational to start at a new work place and get out of my comfort zone. I’m enjoying being the weird (not on Instagram) uncomfortable (starting a new job) lady.
PPS - Email I would love to chat or I also have WhatsApp.
Mentoring.
Mentoring, brainstorming, clarity conversations are one of my favourite things. Being in collaboration with another woman in her business is SO POWERFUL for both of us. With my time off social media, and changes I have been making in my own life I am feeling more passionate about these conversations than ever. If you would like to be in conversation with me reply to this email and I will send you my calendar.
Remote photo session
If you would like to experience a remote photo session with me via the Shutter app
