that is where your growth hides
Dear Wednesday reader,
How are you? How was your week?
I pull a card each time I sit down to write or have a mentoring conversation with a client.
Five minutes ago, I pulled the Ten of Swords card inverted.
The words I read in the meaning that impacted me are:
Get curious about where your resistance lies, for your growth hides there .
The new job I have told you about briefly is a brand-new role; I am creating the foundations for it. (As I just wrote those words – so much clarity opened for me).
Clarity doesn’t come in the big moments; it comes in the quiet.
I have come from a doing a job for 23 years – I could do it in my sleep (I am sure I did when on night shift). I knew it inside and out, back to front, someone could ask me a question and an automatic response would come out – I generally didn’t have to think about the answer. I was so inside my comfort zone, I was past experiencing big feelings in my work, the only feeling I had in my body was – exhaustion.
The last few days I have doubled down on yoga, meditation, listening to books and podcasts, because the new role is bumping up against frustration, panic, a sense of feeling lost, while also determination and finding a voice I didn’t know existed inside of me. I am learning a lot. The leading feeling is resistance to being new, the battle of not knowing every single answer, the confrontation of not knowing what I don’t know. This is where my growth hides.
I realize in writing this email to you where there are opportunities for being resourceful, for finding out how to find out answers, for feeling all of what I am feeling and alchemizing that sensitivity into deeply understanding how I can be of service, how I can use the knowledge, wisdom and skill I learnt in my old job and being curious and creative in applying it in this new role.
There is so much growth and transformation in being uncomfortable in feeling resistance, in feeling your edges, in feeling human emotions – as long as you recognize it.
In being back on social media, I have been feeling some of these things as well. If you follow me on Instagram, you would have noticed I am sharing more “personal” stories. During my 61 days away from Instagram it gave me time to think about how I wanted to use this free tool, I did an audit on some of the accounts I most connect with or truly take notice of and what they share.
They share their human emotion, their share their stories, they share personal, interesting things about themselves. I had been resistant to doing this, I had been selling, sure I shared some personal stories sometimes, but I was mostly asking people to buy my photography or mentoring.
I also did an audit on my clients, and all of them I have either met in a workshop, course, or we have connected over a span of time in DM’s. They have got to know me before buying from me, they trust me with their money because we have shared stories, laughs, heart emoji’s, we have related to each other.
The clients that want to work with us or need what we offer; can only find us if we be ourselves. This is where my growth hides.
And doesn’t all this tie together beautifully! I was resistant to “get another job” because I purely wanted to work at home in my business. HOWEVER, my new job is showing we deeply where my growth hides; which is opening up growth in me remembering and understanding myself more, which in turn is me showing up in my business in a new way and growth is revealing itself in what I was pushing for; resistance was pushing back at me and not opening up as the success I wanted because I wasn’t showing up fully as me.
Everything is connected so magically and beautifully if we notice it.
Where is your resistance? Be curious about it. Try something new that makes you wildly uncomfortable, that is where your growth hides.
Another way to say it:
Nothing changes if nothing changes.
Your resistance is asking you to back yourself on another path.
What you are resisting is shouting at you to wake up and choose it.
Have a beautiful day
Love Melinda
Your life, art and business are how you create them mentoring.
Mentoring, brainstorming, clarity conversations are one of my favorite things. Being in collaboration with another woman in her business is SO POWERFUL for both of us. With my time off social media, and changes I have been making in my own life I am feeling more passionate about these conversations than ever. If you would like to be in conversation with me reply to this email and I will send you my calendar.
