Kind but uncomfortable.
Hi good afternoon,
I tried a “long portrait” today. A long portrait is a “portrait” taken over 2 minutes. It is an intense and uncomfortable experience, it is to get past the face we “put” on for the camera. I shared it with some of my story on my Instagram account.
I thought it married beautifully with the clarity mentoring conversations I have with clients, the conversations I have with women photographers around their business, what is happening or not happening, fears, or concerns. It can feel the same; intense and uncomfortable. But this is where the change happens. And that is a foundation to what I offer in my zoom calls – finding out “What is your why”. When you look at yourself closely it gets uncomfortable, because you have to answer to yourself, you have to look at yourself and find out what you want and why. Then with the clarity of your why move towards understanding, self-belief and self-trust and being resourceful and curious about how you will take action.
This is deep personal work – having a business is one of the biggest personal development experiences you can give yourself. It is an opportunity to experience feelings, emotions and push boundaries you may not have felt before. This is why I say to myself, and my clients can you FEEL your why? To feel it is to go deeper into yourself, not your mind and brain but your heart. If you can feel it, then you will know if that choice is the next step for you.
Once there is a foundation you believe in that gives you energy, focus and something you WANT to show up for, a why that you are curious about and want to explore, share and talk about. Clarity on your why gives you room to play and be in a relationship with what you are creating, it is something you will not give up on. Having clarity on your why means you know what you value, your standards, and boundaries, you will work with it and know what to keep and what to cull in the movement of your business.
Getting clear on your why is getting to know yourself, it is raising the bar for yourself and the life you are creating. Knowing your why is nourishing and being clear means you go at your own pace, you make choices that you FEEL.
Your business is how you create it with every choice you make, if you are clear on your why, then you will be clear in what you are creating, what you want, how you will get there, knowing your why means you are taking responsibility for what your business looks like, feels like and your experience of business. You get to choose; you get to have the voice in your business.
Do you know your why with clarity?
